Jeep Wrangler JK Front Drive Shaft vs Exhaust Crossover Problem Solutions

Jeep Wrangler JK Front Drive Shaft vs Exhaust Crossover Problem Solutions

Viper Motorsports in Weatherford, Texas has the perfect solution for lifted Jeep Wrangler JK exhaust crossover problems. The issue, as anyone who drives a lifted 2012-2017 Jeep Wrangler JK likely knows, is that a lift as little as 2 inches can cause the front driveshaft to make contact with the exhaust crossover tube which rests just UNDERNEATH the front driveshaft. Even if it the driveshaft appears to clear the exhaust crossover after installation of a lift kit, you will likely have issues during suspension down travel because as the axle articulates downward, so does the front drive shaft. This driveshaft vs exhaust crossover issue worsens the higher you lift your Jeep with more lift. Many lift kit manufacturers recommend new drive shafts with lift kits in excess of 3.5" but, many off-road shops neglect to mention this to their customers because average daily highway driving doesn't make the problem glaringly obvious.

There are a few different solutions to this problem:

New Front CV Drive Shaft

This would be the best and of course, the most expensive solution, Replacing the front driveshaft with a smaller diameter, longer, stronger, double cardan driveshaft with better quality CV Joints will run about $400 plus installation. At just 3.5? of lift, the angle at the output shaft CV joint can be severe enough to cause the CV boot to fail prematurely and eventually, you will need to replace the front driveshaft.

Exhaust Spacers

Some lift kit manufacturers sell exhaust spacers which PUSH the exhaust crossover toward the rear providing a little more clearance. In our professional opinion, this would fall under the category of "Jerry Rigging"  because this approach often puts the exhaust in a bind and many have complained that they have had problems with the spacers rattling after installation.

Custom Exhaust Crossover from Viper Motorsports

Viper Motorsports has a perfect solution for Jeep Wrangler JK exhaust crossover issues. We will install a new custom mandrel bent crossover pipe that eliminates contact between the exhaust crossover pipe and front drive-shaft providing plenty of clearance for 2" to 5" of lift. This is the perfect fix for any 2012-17 Jeep Wrangler JK 2 door or 4 door with 3.6L V6 engine and less than 3 inches of lift. Installation of this pipe allows more drive-shaft clearance during downward suspension travel. Our Jeep exhaust crossover solution is custom made for each vehicle from 14 gauge aluminized mandrel-bent steel tubing and welded into place (no clamps). Price for parts and installation is $99.95.

If you have aftermarket skid plates installed, we can try accommodate them during the installation as all work is custom fitted and mandrel bent.
